Let’s Start Taking Responsibility for Our Roles in Climate Change:Describe the project that you did and the way you shared it with an audience.
My audience was any snow enthusiast. They definitely did not have to be skiers. As well as just people who don’t believe in climate change. I was trying to show these people that climate change is real and action needs to be taken. What have you discovered about your own emerging ideology as a young American? Yes, my political beliefs have changed. I never would have thought but I went from being pretty liberal to just being disappointed in our country and where it has come. Right now other than a few liberal beliefs I would not pick a political side and really look at who the people I am voting for and if their beliefs align with mine. Before this year I would have called myself liberal and probably voted solely liberal. What have you learned about rhetoric, ideology, and the “democratic experiment”? I learned that we still have a long way to go. We also have done so many great things and we should feel proud and maybe one day I will be able to call myself an American and be proud of it. I learned about how you say something and when you say it can dictate which answer you receive. This is a very interesting skill to have but more interesting to be able to see it being used on you. What role could Rogerian rhetoric and/or a “willingness to be disturbed” play in a democratic society? It would allow for much more open discussion because people would be more open to the worst. It would also make for much more strong-minded individuals because people would have seen much worse so they would be able to get over their opinions. I think when something bad were to happen people would be better a coping with it and focusing more on the solution thann the problem. |
