“This year has been a learning experience for me.” said Animas High School Senior, Jack Tescher when asked to reflect on his semester. Coming into the year he was extremely ambitious with his ideas. Jack being the head of video product at the Animas Quill which was not able to publicize a video this semester. “I never realized how much it really takes to create a newsworthy story. When I started the class I thought it would be easy to make videos and even try to make them weekly. I was too ambitious and didn't know how much work it takes to even create the template for a weekly video, ” he said during an interview. During the second semester the Animas Quill is going to continue the process of video making. After having a new student joining the video production team and Jack stepping down as the broadcaster to fully focus on the videography and production of the videos. “Doing this will help us share the workload better and have consistent content.” Jack said in an interview.
Final content and Reflection
This semester I was feeling more and more burnt out as the semester progressed. So I didn't get much work done. We did a video project but it was not new worthy enough so it never ended up getting shared with anyone. The other thing that I did was I wrote a news brief on a stock market class that was running a stock market simulation with whatever student wanted to join. This class definitely changed the way I consume news. I have become much more skeptical of things that I read. I have also been able to become a better writer through this class. I learn how to write in the most neutral way possible. If being neutral on a topic is actually possible. Even though this last semester I was burnt out I enjoyed seeing how much passion and dedication my peers still had in these final hours. Moving forward I don't think I will end up pursuing journalism but I will continue to notice curtain nueces when I am consuming news and will continue to be critical of the things I read.
